Ayrshire Quiz Answers

Thank you for taking part - how many answers did you get right?

Loch Doon Castle - was originally located in an island in the loch, but when the water level was raised to create a reservoir, it was rebuilt stone-by-stone at the side of the loch. See The Galloway Highlands for more information.

Glenbuck - see Ayrshire's Lost Villages

Difficult one! - depends on how you define a hill/mountain - the highest point in Ayrshire is at Kirriereoch Hill, just north of the Merrick, but the actual summit of the hill is in Kirkcudbrightshire. The highest summit within Ayrshire would then be Shalloch on Minnoch. See Galloway Highlands for details.

Ballochmyle Viaduct, near Mauchline. See History of Mauchline

Prestwick Airport in March 1960.

Largs

Kilwinning - Lodge No. 0 is there.

Prestwick Old Course in 1860

Rhubarb - but you also get apple ones!

Kilmarnock WIllow - but don't tell the Kilmarnock folk, it was James Smith (1759-1847) of Monkwood Grove, near Alloway, who created them!
